Concord's claims to fame include gold mines, brave patriots, cigarettes, race cars, and an outlet mall that has become the states most popular tourist destination.  In 2004 Concord became an All- American City.  The town of 62,078 is located in Cabarrus County which was once part of Mecklenburg county until the two split in 1792.  Settlers named their new settlement Concord which means Harmony.

In 1771 9 young men from the area captured and destroyed munitions of war being transported through NC by Royal Governor William Tryon.  The brave feat contributed to the independence movement in the area.  The next major event in Concord history was when 12-year-old Conrad Reed found a piece of gold the size of and iron.  Hundreds of gold miners would later scour the piedmont of NC including what is now uptown Charlotte. Vistors can still pan for gold and tour the site at Reed Gold Mine.

Twice a year as many as 240,000 race fans flock to NASCAR races at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord.  The Coca Cola 600 is held in the Spring and is among the World's largest sporting events.  Concord Mills Mall , located on I85 exit 49 has become a huge drawing card with hundreds of outlet stores restaurants, a movie theater, a Bass Pro Shop, and a NASCAR theme park.  A growing number of hotels have popped up along I85 at exit 49.  Residents enjoy the new McEchern Greenway and community events such as Union Street Live, Dog Days Out Pet Festival, and the annual Christmas Parade.
